For recycling: charcoal filters must be used and these should never be washed. They should be changed every 6 months, according to the frequency of use of the cookerhood.
There will be a reduction in the rate of extraction as the air now has to move through the charcoal filters as well. There may be a slight increase in noise level, as additional pressure is placed on the motor. Make sure that the airflow can leave without obstruction: no furniture or racks, which could stop the exit of air. Where regular grilling (hot-rock for example) or heavy frying is a common occurrence, one should look at commercial extraction options.
Metal/Grease filters: Metal filters should be washed because:
– Stagnant grease can generate bad odours.
– A soiled oil filter constitutes a fire hazard. A saturated filter prevents the passage of air by reducing the extraction capacity of the hood.
– Grease filters/Metallic filters must be washed every 2 months. They are dishwasher safe.
